The owner of this split-level apartment in downtown Athens grew up in the flat upstairs. When he bought the flat below to expand his living space, the two floors were connected with a steel spiral staircase. Whilst the use of durable industrial materials and exposed concrete reflect the urban location, the open-plan living area upstairs has glass walls to maximise the city views. Playing with different perspectives and subverting expectations, a picture window in the bathroom exposes the light well, revealing the grimy insides of the building and bringing light into the back of the apartment.
